Eagles with Salmon combines two of the most extraordinary species of the American West. The eagle has long carried a mythic presence, powerful, watchful, and untamed. The salmon possesses a more humble but equally remarkable strength. Born in the cold mountain waters of the interior West, some travel nearly a thousand miles to the Pacific, only to turn years later and fight their way back upstream, climbing thousands of feet to the waters where their lives began.

My fascination with that journey deepened while working on Source, a documentary about salmon and the ecosystems they sustain. Salmon carry the richness of the ocean deep into the continent, feeding eagles, bears, forests, and rivers along the way. In this sculpture, the eagles and salmon come together in a single moment, not simply as predator and prey, but as inseparable parts of an essential ecosystem.
